Today is the day to honor and remember those who lost their lives defending our freedom, our safety, our principles, and our country. Every day we should thank all that give of themselves to protect us. To the brave men and women who selflessly serve, Thank You!
My father served in WWII. He was an airplane mechanic. Mom served the veterans. She volunteered and visited at Wood Hospital and the surrounding veterans homes for many years. I placed flowers on their graves yesterday. There were flags on all the vets graves, but not too many flowers or remembrances any more. Sadly, people are too dispersed... or maybe just not interested in that tradition any more.
ReplyDeleteMany Men and Women served in WWII from Racine, but many served the country by making product used for the war. Racine was a HUGH manufacturing hub for WWII. Without all of the skilled UNION labor that supplied our troops, It may have been a different war?
ReplyDeleteYes, every effort went behind the war. My mom worked at Hamilton Beach as a young woman around that time. She said she wound armatures on a line. Not sure if it was for only for their commercial/consumer products or for other, war related engines, too? Unions sure have taken a beating under the current administration.
ReplyDeleteHamilton-Beach, made MANY universal small motors, used for endless reasons. The sewing machine motor alone was used In thousands of machines to make uniforms etc. Just imagine. Both Hamilton Beach, and Dumore made many, many motors for the was effort.
