Breaking News

Our friend Okie reports she was awakened this morning by the earth shaking.....
(insert your own joke here) Hoping there are no injuries and that damage is minimal.

A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck in Oklahoma on September 3, 2016 at 12:02:44 UTC (7:02 am local time).

Visit the USGS event page for more details on this earthquake.

Without studying the specifics of the wastewater injection and oil and gas production in this area, the USGS cannot currently conclude whether or not this particular earthquake was caused by industrial-related, human activities. However, we do know that many earthquakes in Oklahoma have been triggered by wastewater fluid injection. The USGS will continue to process seismic data in the following days and weeks that will help answer this question.

An earthquake of comparable size last occurred in Oklahoma in 2011. A magnitude 5.1 earthquake also struck in Oklahoma on February 13, 2016.

Open Blog - Weekend

For some reason, this made me think of that hard frosting-like "dots" that came on a strip of white paper. It was always my favorite penny candy. There was no way to eat it without eating some paper... but we didn't mind.

Open Blog - Thursday

The adults have been back getting ready for awhile.... Now let's add the kids and get this show on the road!

Remember to leave a little extra time, drive slowly, be patient with new bus drivers and routes, and watch for children who might be distracted.

I Am Back With A Picture...

I have not blogged in a while but have been watching and lurking. Finally trying to reconnect a little.

I took a bunch of pictures of the Perseids a few weeks ago. I finally sat down for a few hours to hack my way through how to combine them in Photoshop into one image showing a bunch of meteors. Here is the result.

You can see most of the meteors appear to come from one area of the sky if you trace them backwards. That is Perseus of course, where all the Perseid meteors appear to come from. There is one oddball that doesn't line up. I double checked it to be sure I didn't mess up processing the image and it appears to be a sporadic meteor...those happen.

I shot with two cameras that night so I now have to work on the pics from the other one and am looking forward to future meteor showers now that I know how to do this!
