Spring in Wisconsin

I swear, I saw a Robin with its wing outstretched, trying to hitchhike on the side of the road Friday morning.  Haven't seen any nest building activity yet; they have been just hanging around low to the ground. We are halfway through the month of April.

  1. Ice is currently pelting my picture window. Everything is coated in white outside. Might be an inch or so. Around 1 am this morning, I heard pop, thud, bang about 3 or 4 times. I opened my eyes and saw a bright flash of light concurrently from somewhere in the distance. My CO2 detector sounded, and I checked my alarm clock display to confirm the power was out. Oh joy. I snuggled under the covers, as the temperature was certain to drop. About 3 hours later, the power returned, and the CO2 detector sounded again. So.... coffee, and the tick, tick, tick of the wind smashing the ice pellets into the window. The home and garden centers have all the plants being delivered for sale, and no buyers. This aught to be interesting.

  2. Yuck, and double yuck. I will refrain from any snarky comments from the south. Stay warm, dry and safe.
