Staying Alive....

7 comments:

  1. Been a rough winter. Colds, flu, earaches, swollen glands, you name it. Just get over one thing and come down with the next. Last week end, I was dragged to urgent care. I could no longer deny that I needed help. Currently feeling very fortunate that the massive medications prescribed are finally starting to allow me to breathe and function again. Breathing is a good thing. Bronchitis is no joke.

  2. Get well soon! I got laid low by a head cold a few weeks back. I thought it might go to my lungs, but it didn’t. Hope you get over this quickly.

  3. KK, So sorry you're having to endure all of this. Believe me, I am not trying to one up you. Since last Friday I have had this chest congestion, etc. which finally got ME to go to Urgent Care. After sitting for two hours waiting for these little kids running all over the place to get the results of they're throat swabs, I finally got a PA to look In my Ears, Nose Throat, and diagnose sinusitis, or whatever BS she could come up with. So anyhow, I'm now on Antibiotics for 10 day's, by which time I should be ok anyhow. SO, while I'm sitting In the waiting room, I'm talking to this Latin woman who said she had been sitting, waiting for her Grandpa, who was In one of the ER rooms since 10 that morning. It's now 5 In the afternoon. WHAT the hell could they possibly be doing for 7 hours? I get home, and find out one of my Granddaughters friends father just died. THIS Is the best part. He was In the ER at 10 In the morning with chest pains, and they couldn't find anything? and sent him home. He went out to target shoot, and DROPPED DEAD. I'm sorry, but the BRONCHITIS? post just reminded me of how useless our Medical Profession can be. Personally I don't even believe In Bronchitis, I think It just an out, and they give you a script for Antibiotics, and send you on you're way. I was so unhappy with my visit to Mauston's Mile Bluff Medical Centers Urgent Care, that as I was leaving (I complained a few times) I told the crew behind the desk, they were lucky, because the only time they would ever see me again, was If they rolled me In DEAD, and walked out the door. A little over an hour later they must have rolled the 51 year old they sent home earlier. I HOPE you are back to 100% REAL soon.

  4. No antibiotics. They gave me something to open up the airwaves, another something to stop my own auto-immune system from ramping things up, and a dandy anti-cough capsule to stop the severe urge to bark like a dog. ;> I am feeling somewhat better. Sorry to hear of your troubles, too, Toad. Their ability to wave a wand is not always possible. They "practice" medicine. It is more than frustrating, sometimes, especially when they don't get it right and you really need them to.

  5. KK, I'm not so worried about me, but had they done the proper testing on my Granddaughters father, In no way would they have sent him home. Just guessing at this point, but I'll bet they didn't do a treadmill stress test? As for you, I'm guessing they gave you an Inhaler? I got one once, and It really irritated my throat. I wouldn't even have gone to Urgent Care If my wife would have stopped pushing me. Generally a waste of time and money. Remember when we were kids. We didn't go to the Dr. unless we were nearly dead, and just look at how long we managed to fool them. I should have just had a 3 oz shot of Akaavit. Or maybe Tequila, I have lots of that too. She told me to gargle with salt water, but I tried Brandy. OOP'S I swallowed It.

  6. First, let me say that what happened to this man is terrible. I certainly feel extreme sadness for the family. I would be assuming if I guessed what tests the ER ran, but one would assume that minimally, an EKG was ordered and blood work. Evidently, the tests didn't show whatever problem was occurring. Walk-in clinics don't order involved or specialized tests. They will tell you to go to the ER if the symptoms you describe (or show upon examination) exceed what they can do. It is meant as a stop-gap. They always tell you to follow up with your doctor if the "fix" they deliver doesn't remedy the situation or if you start to feel worse.

I re-read your previous comment. I'm surprised he felt well enough to go out target shooting. I went back home and crawled back under a blankey and licked my paws for a couple days

  7. Me too. I don't know for certain what happened. I can tell you that In 1998 when I went to the ER with pains, they of course did the EKG, Blood Work, etc. but also sent me to the lab for a treadmill stress test. They kept me, and delivered me to Meriter In Madison the following morning for a Heart Cath, which resulted In a Stent. They did NOT send me home, BUT I admit I do not know all of the circumstances.
