I remember having a pair in our woods here about 13 years ago. Every afternoon, the one would screech for the other to come home. We had babies in the nest. They are back.
We used to have a ton more mourning doves. I believe those are a favorite food of choice for hawks. They are also slower and more stationary, so they are easier to catch.
They must be making a comeback. I'm seeing them here, in the city more and more. They are big and fiercly powerful.
