A little excitement in the Dither household this morning. The gas connecter to the clothes dryer broke. The house smelled like gas and the basement was very thick with it. Had to shut off everything to avoid a spark and open up the windows to air the house out. Good thing it was early in the day before it was too hot outside. Couple of trips to Home Depot (they never make this stuff easy) and a new connecter is in place. Very lucky it all turned out without a disaster.
Dang KK! How scary. We had a water heater gas leak in a house we rented .Never knew about it. Always felt a bit weird there. After having the house closed up for a weekend being away, a friend walks in and said I smell gas.. opened windows and called the gas company.
On a lighter note, I remember when the state mandated carbon dioxide detectors in all rentals. Our manager in Kenosha called worried because the building didn't have a one. I reminded her that it was an all electric building....oops.
Funny thing... It didn't seem scary at all. It seemed like more of a nuisance when it was happening. Really fortunate that it all played out as it did, and we got everything turned off and ventilated. Could have happened at a much more inopportune time, or it could have happened overnight or gone unnoticed for awhile. I have a smoke and a CO2 detector, but natural gas doesn't register. Good thing they add the smelly stuff to it.
What's on my mind? Absolutely nothing.
