Perch for dinner? Oh I am so jealous. My favorite fish. They have "perch" down here but it's not the same.
Another hot day. Love getting in my car that's been sitting in the heat for 3 hours. I need to go start warming it up so to speak so that the A/C is nice and cool.
The Perch are gone from Lake Michigan, but, what I miss the most Is fishing with my Grandpa, and Dad off the North Pier. We would bring home a big bag of fish, scale, and clean them, and mom would cook them. Nothing finer. Finally we had to resort to Hammes. Now us Northerners eat Talapia from Thailand that Is fed Pig Shit. "OH SO GOOD" Not me though. I prefer Cod. If I knew I could get GOOD Walleye, I would order It. I had Walleye Cheeks the last time we went to the American Legion. Not bad, but they certainly were not from Lake Superior.
I prefer not thinking about what they feed the tilapia. It tastes good. If you live long enough, they eventually tell you everything you like is bad for you. Wait 10 more years and they retract it. I prefer cod to to perch. Perch is a little too fishy tasting and sometimes too boney. The stuff my grandma cooked up after grandpa and the "boys" got home from fishing was amazing. Those were the days....
I remember a very hot summer where the guys in our neighborhood all were up early and went to the lake. Came back with over 30 lbs of perch. We had an old fashioned fish fry.
Fish have cheeks? Funny, we had to come back to WI from MN ( you know.. 10,000 lakes) for a real perch fish fry. Last time got a bone, and now I'm turned off of it. They don't call it lake perch there, fresh water? I think.. There is a difference. Ocean perch is kinda sucky. (not a big fish fan anyway) And my Dad was a fisherman..
What I miss the most by living in FL. The Friday fish fry. No sweet lake perch or walleye.
ReplyDeleteI did find a couple from Michigan who sell perch and walleye at our local farmers' market. They run out of those lake fish quickly.
Have a great FF Friday!
I'm going to a Milwaukee brewpub today to early celebrate Father's Day. They have an awesome fish fry.
ReplyDeleteThink of me. We're having ahi tuna for dinner, which I love, but just not the same!
